Stack's Bowers 2015 NYINC sale, lot 1740

This specimen was lot 1740 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $2,353.53. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND. Geneva. 10 Franc, 1851. PCGS MS-63 Secure Holder. Sharply struck. Lightly toned with strong underlying luster. Some contact marks on reverse." Geneva minted five francs in silver, ten and twenty francs in gold in 1848, the last year of cantonal issues. This massive coin must have been a presentation piece.
