Geneva 1791-PB 6 sols
This specimen was lot 2558 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 40 CHF (about US$53 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Genf/Genève, Stadt und Kanton, 6 Sols 1791, Genf. Mzz. P B. Gutes vorzüglich. (Switzerland, canton of Geneva, six sols of 1791, Geneva mint, mintmark PB. Good extremely fine.)"
This type was accompanied by a three sols. Both were struck in billon and silver. It was previously struck in 1765 and 1776. Twelve sols = florin, 12 florins, 9 sols = thaler = 153 sols. In 1794, a French-sponsored revolution which toppled the old oligarchy.
