Geneva 1758 pistole Fr-262
This specimen was lot 4081 in Sincona sale 87 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 4,750 CHF (about US$6,396 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Genf/Genève, Pistole 1758, Genf. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. PCGS MS63. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. Das durch PCGS höchstbewertete Exemplar. (Switzerland, canton of Geneva, pistole of 1758, Geneva mint. Very rare in this condition, Magnificent condition, Finest certified by PCGS.)"
This type was struck 1752-58, 1762 and 1770. It is the most important gold coin from this canton yet it is rare. The pistole was the common name for the Spanish two escudos (6.77 g) or the French louis d'or (8.14 g) but this coin corresponds to neither, being very close to a double ducat.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 7.64 g, 0.900 fine gold.
