Geneva 1596-G quart

Sincona sale 102, lot 5208

This specimen was lot 5208 in Sincona Auction 102 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 50 CHF (about US$75 including buyers' fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Genf/Genève, Stadt und Kanton, Quart 1596, Genf. Mzz. G. Gutes sehr schön. (Switzerland, city and canton of Geneva, quart of 1596, Geneva mint. Good Very Fine.)"

This type was struck 1535, 1551-57, 1560-62, 1589-98 and undated. These low denomination coins were often crudely made on bad planchets. One thaler was 96 sols and one sol was four quarts.

Specification: 0.83 g, billon, 17 mm diameter, this specimen 0.69 g.
