Stack's Bowers October 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 75527

This specimen was lot 75527 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2024), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Gelderland. Rijksdaalder, 1625. NGC VF-35. This wholesome example displays light attractive gray tone with even wear." As Dav-8832, this type was issued 1593-1600 and as Dav-4828 it was issued 1606-25, 1629-31, 1643, 1649-59, 1662, 1674-76, 1680-83, where it appears in the SCWC. Numerous mintmarks are recorded, including KM 16.1 (cross mintmark) struck 1606-31; KM 16.5 (diamond) 1608 only; KM 16.2 (lily) struck 1643, 1648-53; KM 16.3 (dog) struck 1652-59, 1662, 1674-76, 1680, 1683; KM 16.4 (lily/dog) struck 1652-56; KM 16.6 (dog/lily) struck 1665; KM 16a (mintmark knight on horse) struck 1699.
