Jean Elsen sale 154, lot 1873

This specimen was lot 1873 in Jean Elsen sale 154 (Brussels, March 2023), where it sold for €850 (about US$1,101 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"NEDERLAND, FRIESLAND, Provincie, AV dukaat met de ridder, 1612. Vz/ Staande ridder n.r. met zwaard en pijlenbundel. Kz/ Tekst in versierd vierkant. Zeer Fraai. (Netherlands, province of Friesland, gold ducat of the knight of 1612. Obverse: standing knight right with sword and bundle of arrows; reverse: four lines of text. Very Fine.)"

This type was struck 1602-20, 1626, 1629-40, 1643-45, 1648-54, 1657, 1663, 1666-68, 1676, 1693. It is scarce compared to the issues of Utrecht or Holland.
