Kunker sale 293, lot 815

This specimen was lot 815 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €2,200 (about US$2,965 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRIEDBERG, REICHSBURG, Conrad Löw zu Steinfurt, 1617-1632. Reichstaler 1623, Friedberg, mit Titel Ferdinands II. R Feine Patina, kl. Schrötlingsfehler, sehr schön. (imperial city of Friedburg, Conrad of Steinfurt, 1617-32, thaler of 1623, Friedburg mint, struck in the name of Ferdinand II. Scarce, fine patina, some edge defects, very fine.)"

The free city of Friedberg evolved into a burgraviate and thence passed to Hesse-Darmstadt in 1802. All of its issues are rare.
