Fribourg 1739 1/2 kreuzer
The first specimen was lot 3166 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$363 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Freiburg/Fribourg, Stadt und Kanton, Vierer 1739, Freiburg. Selten. Fast sehr schön. Exemplar der Studie zu Halbbatzen, Schillingen, Kreuzer, Vierer und 2/3 Haller von Freiburg i. Üe./Fribourg. (Switzerland, canton of Fribourg, vierer or half kreuzer of 1739, Fribourg mint, Rare, About Very Fine.)"
The second specimen was lot 4189 in SINCONA Auction 98 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$363 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Freiburg/Fribourg, Stadt und Kanton, Vierer 1739, Freiburg. Sehr selten. Sehr schön. (Switzerland, canton of Fribourg, vierer or half kreuzer of 1739, Fribourg mint, Very rare, Very Fine.)"
This vierer or half kreuzer was struck 1736-40, 1744 and 1751. This date is scarce. Other vierer struck at this time had an imperial eagle on the obverse (KM 37).
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specifications: 0.55 g, billon, 15 mm diameter, the first specimen is 0.53 g. The second specimen is 0.58 g.
