Fribourg 1737 1/2 kreuzer KM-45
This specimen was lot 3164 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 110 CHF (about US$160 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Freiburg/Fribourg, Stadt und Kanton, Vierer 1737, Freiburg. Variante mit schmalem Wappen ohne Doppeladler. Rv. mit SANCTVS + NICOLAVS. Gutes sehr schön. Exemplar der Studie zu Halbbatzen, Schillingen, Kreuzer, Vierer und 2/3 Haller von Freiburg i. Üe./Fribourg. (Switzerland, canton of Fribourg, vierer or half kreuzer of 1737, Fribourg mint, variety with samll arms and no eagle. Reverse: SANCTVS + NICOLAVS. Good Very Fine.)"
Das Kapitel Freiburg im Üechtland / Fribourg beinhaltet eine grössere Partie von Scheidemünzen des 17. bis 19. Jahrhunderts, bei denen eine grosse Anzahl Stempelvarianten in vielen Losen zusammengefasst wurden. Der betreffende Sammler hat sich die Mühe gemacht, die Halbbatzen, Schillinge, Kreuzer, Vierer und 2/3 Haller (früher als einseitige Deniers bezeichnet) nach Varianten zu sammeln, und er hat dies auch dokumentiert. So ist eine Arbeit entstanden, welche bis heute noch niemand zusammengestellt hat. (The Fribourg section of this auction contains a large collection of minor coins from the 17th to 19th centuries, with a large number of die variants grouped into many lots. The collector in question took the trouble to collect the half-batzen, shillings, kreuzers, vierer, and 2/3 hallers (formerly known as uniface deniers) by variety, and he also documented this process. The result is a collection that no one has ever compiled before.)
This vierer or half kreuzer was struck 1736-40, 1744 and 1751. This date is listed as better. Other vierer struck at this time had an imperial eagle on the obverse (KM 37).
