Sincona sale 102, lot 5148

This specimen was lot 5148 in Sincona Auction 102 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 275 CHF (about US$415 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Freiburg/Fribourg, Stadt und Kanton, Groschen (Gros) 1529, Freiburg. Selten. Schön-sehr schön. (Switzerland, city and canton of Fribourg, groschen or groat of 1529, Fribourg mint. Rare, Fine-Very Fine.)"

This type is noted for 1526-29 with many more without date. One groschen was three kreuzer or 1/20 thaler early in the sixteenth century. The groschen was superseded by the batzen (four kreuzer) in Switzerland.
