This specimen was part of lot 26736 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), which sold for $69. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic Trio, Cent 1892-A, KM 1, AU; 5 Cent 1937 (2), KM 18, AU/Unc." This one cent piece is one of a type issued for French Indo-China during 1885-94. The succeeding type (KM 7) replaced "REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE" with "UN CENTIEME DE PIASTRE". French Indochina was occupied by the Japanese in 1940. French attempts to reoccupy the area after World War Two were challenged by Ho Chi Minh and the Viet Minh, leading to French defeat and withdrawal in 1954. The colony was divided into Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.
