Frankfurt 1855 6 kreuzer
This specimen was lot 71414 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $110. The catalog description[1] noted,"GERMANY. Frankfurt. 6 Kreuzer, 1855. NGC MS-66. The sole finest example for the date in the NGC census, this incredibly brilliant specimen features sublimely attractive surfaces with alluring luster. Wholly pleasing and beautiful, with splendid eye appeal." This type was struck 1846-56 and is common. Frankfurt was annexed to Prussia in 1866 after choosing the losing side of the Austro-Prussian war, so perhaps these were saved as souvenirs. A six kreuzer with a city view (KM 350) was also issued in the 1850's but not for this year.
