Frankfurt 1788-G PCB N kreuzer KM-267
This specimen was lot 2518 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $360. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANKFURT AM MAIN: Free Imperial City, AR kreuzer, 1788, mintmaster initials PCB, mint warden initials GN, a superb lustrous mint state example! MS65." Frankfurt issued an extensive series of kreuzers 1763-89 in various types. This type, issued 1784-89, is less common than earlier issues. The initials "GN" stand for Georg Neumeister, Mint Warden at Bamberg (1754-1762), Würzburg (1754-1762) and Frankfurt am Main (1764-1789) and "PCB" stands for Phillip Christian Bunsen, Mint Master at Frankfurt am Main (1764-1790). Other kreuzer struck at the time featured an eagle on the obverse (KM 257).
