Künker sale 385, lot 3635

This specimen was lot 3635 in Künker sale 385 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €3,800 (about US$4,910 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANKFURT, STADT, 1 1/4 Dukaten 1745, auf die Krönung von Franz I. zum römischen Kaiser. GOLD. Vorzüglich. Erworben 1996 bei der Firma M. Meister. (city of Frankfurt, 1¼ ducat of 1745, on the coronation of Francis I as emperor. Extremely fine.)"

This type was accompanied by two different ducats (KM 203 and 204) and a 3/4 ducat (KM 202). Eighteenth century coinage from this town is surprisingly scanty, given its status as a free city. A few of these are known struck in silver (KM-Pn48).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 4.37 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 4,32 g.

Catalog reference: KM 205, Fr-1009a; J. u. F. 796 a; Förschner 311.
