Frankfurt 1657 ducat Fr-976
This specimen was lot 33677 in Heritage sale 3098 (New York, January 2022), where it sold for $2,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Frankfurt. Free City gold Ducat 1657/6 MS64 NGC. Golden resplendence abounds this well-preserved gold Ducat, a series usually seen in lesser states and only borderline uncirculated. Decorated in a pervasive granularity and light reflectivity, while light friction to the reverse is found to cap the assigned grade." The SCWC divides this issue into two subtypes: eagle's head right (KM 104.2, shown here), struck 1649-60 and 1666, and eagle's head left (KM 104.1), struck 1646-49 and 1652-54.
