This specimen was lot 1311 in CGB sale 24. This type was struck An 5 to An 9 (1796-1801) in large quantities (Le Franc[1] estimates nearly 98 million for the series) but is very rare in nice condition. Many were hurriedly struck on bad planchets and saw long and heavy wear; French collectors of the day scorned copper coinage and few were saved. This date is noted as common, despite the low reported mintage.

Recorded mintage: 38,517. (Le Franc comments, "Chiffre officiel de production tres largement sous-évalué, plus probablement de l'ordre d'un million d'exemplaires.")

Specification: 20 g, bronze, 32 mm diameter, decorated edge, designed by Augustin Dupré.

Catalog reference: F.129/10, KM 644.
