During An 5, this type was struck at Paris ("A"), Metz ("AA"), Rouen ("B"), Strasbourg ("BB"), Lyon ("D"), Limoges ("I"), Bordeaux ("K"), Orléans ("R", shown here), Nantes ("T") and Lille ("W"). Paris produced the majority. The dies for this issue were recycled extensively, resulting in a plethora of overdates and repunched mintmarks. This specimen, rough as it is, was struck over a new blank. In all, about 98 million were produced during years 5-9. They circulated in France until the 1850's and today few are found in Very Fine or better.

Recorded mintage: 905,981 struck over double décimes plus 1,074,227 struck on new blanks.

Specification: 20 g, bronze, 32 mm diameter, decorated edge, designed by Augustin Dupré; this specimen 18.23 g.

Catalog reference: F.128/10 (struck over double décimes), KM 645.7 (struck over double décimes), F.129/9 (struck on new blanks), KM 644.9 (struck on new blanks).
