France 1834-B 1/4 franc

Sincona sale 13, lot 2437

This tiny coin was struck at Rouen under the régime of king Louis Philippe of France (1830-48). It is a better date of a type struck 1831-45. All quarter francs of this reign are of this type, which is common. It was replaced in 1845 by a twenty-five centimes piece (F.167) and demonetized in 1852. The catalog[1] notes 108 dates for the type, some very rare. This specimen was lot 2437 in Sincona sale 13 (Zürich, October 2013), where it sold for 450 CHF (about US$582 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted, "Louis Philippe, 1830-1848, 1/4 Franc 1834. Rouen Fast FDC. (quarter franc of 1834, Rouen mint, choice uncirculated.)"
