This tiny coin was struck at Lille under the régime of king Louis XVIII of France (1814-24). It is the one of a type struck 1817-24. Unlike Napoleonic quarter francs, which are divided among six types, all quarter francs of this reign are of this type, which is fairly common.
The catalog[1] notes three specimens known of this date, including the one shown at top. The lower specimen, which was lot 3088 in Goldberg sale 53 (Beverly Hills, May 2009) and sold for $1,150, seems to be the fourth.
Recorded mintage: 3,288[1], 3,194[2].
Specification: 1.25 g, 0.900 fine silver, 15 mm diameter, plain edge.
