The first specimen was lot 74781 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. 1/2 Sol, 1787-AA. Metz Mint. Louis XVI. PCGS MS-63 Brown. From the Richard August Collection." This is a demi-sol a l'écu of the Metz mint, struck during the reign of Louis XVI (1774-93). Droulers[2] notes the type as common but the date as somewhat scarce. The type was issued 1777-91.

Recorded mintage: unknown but an uncommon date.

Specification: 6.11 g, copper, 25 mm diameter, plain edge.
