This specimen was lot 23547 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Louis XVI gold Louis d'Or 1782-A, Paris mint, MS62 PCGS, very scarce type, especially when graded mint state. The details are well-struck with lustrous surfaces, but the obverse has heavy haymarking and the reverse shows some light adjustment marks." This specimen was offered again in Heritage sale 3032 where it also failed to sell. This type was struck for France in limited numbers 1774-85 and was melted when the gold louis was reduced to 7.65 g in 1786. Few survive.

Recorded mintage: est. 254,533 (a high mintage date but mostly melted).

Specification: 8.15 g, 0.917 fine gold.
