Stack's Bowers September 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 74777

This specimen was lot 74777 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $65. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Liard, 1782-&. Aix Mint. Louis XVI. PCGS AU-58. From the Richard August Collection." This specimen is a copper liard struck at the Aix mint in 1782. It is a common date of the type. Its face value was 3 deniers or one fourth of a sol. The type was struck 1777-91 and is known from Aix for 1778, 1780-82, 1784 and 1786.

Recorded mintage: 567,000[2].

Specification: 3.06 g, copper, 23.5 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by Pierre-Benjamin Duvivier.
