This diminutive coin, called a vingtième d'écu au bandeau, was the French equivalent of a half dime. In the coinage system of the ancien régime, the vingtième d'écu = six sols. The type was struck 1740-69 but is recorded for the Bayonne mint ("L") in 1740-41, 1743, 1745, 1749, 1757, 1762 and 1766 only. Despite the interrupted dates of issue, many Bayonne issues are common.

Recorded mintage: unknown but somewhat scarce.

Specification: 1.47 g, 0.917 fine silver, 18-19 mm diameter.
