Künker sale 264, lot 3089

This specimen was lot 3089 in Künker sale 264 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €850 (about US$1,098 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"KÖNIGREICH Louis XV, 1715-1774. Louis d'or au bandeau 1749, A, Paris. GOLD. Attraktives Exemplar, min. Stempelfehler, vorzüglich. (kingdom of France, Louis XV, 1715-74, gold louis of the ribbon of 1749, Paris mint. Attractive example, slightly weak, extremely fine.)"

This type was struck at numerous mints 1740-74 and is readily available for a price. For the 1740's, Lille (mintmark "W") is the most common mint with Paris being second.

Recorded mintage: 27,445.

Specification: 8.15 g, 0.917 fine gold, reeded edge, 24 mm diameter, this specimen 8.16 g.
