This coin, called a dixième d'écu au bandeau, was the French equivalent of a ten cent piece. In the coinage system of the ancien régime, the dixième d'écu = 12 sols. The type was struck 1741-72 and is recorded for the Paris mint ("A") for most of those years. This specimen was lot 30422 in Stack's Bowers ANA auction (Chicago, August 2014), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. 12 Sols (1/10 Ecu), 1749-A. Louis XV (1715-74). NGC MS-63. Attractive toning."

Recorded mintage: 349,700 (a common date).

Specification: 2.95 g, 0.917 fine silver, 22 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by J.-C. Röettiers.
