This specimen was lot 1072 in Goldberg's NY International sale 58 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $2,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "France. Louis XV (1715-1774). Gold Louis d'or aux 2 L, 1720-G. Poitiers mint. Young laureate head right. Rev. Crown over two L's. Struck over earlier type. The only example graded at PCGS. In PCGS holder graded MS 61." This type was struck 1720-23 in France from twenty-seven mints but is very rare. This type was superseded by the louis d'or Mirliton, palmes longues, struck 1723-25. That coin in turn was superseded by the louis d'or aux lunettes, struck 1726-40.

Specification: 9.79 g, 0.917 fine gold, 22-23 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by Norbert Roëttiers.
