from Sedwick Treasure Auction 21, lot 1393

This specimen was lot 1393 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 21 (Winter Park, FL, May 2017), where it sold for $199.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "France (Rennes mint), 1/10 ecu of three crowns, Louis XIV, 1713, mintmark 9. Nicely toned AXF with old scratches on both sides, uneven rims due to slightly off-center strike, popular period." This type was struck 1709-15. The type is common but most individual dates are scarce. This mint is known for 1710-15.

Recorded mintage: 70,848, a better date but not rare[2].

Specification: 3.06 g, 0.917 fine silver, 22-23 mm diameter, reeded edge, this specimen 3.13 grams.
