Sincona sale 63, lot 782

This specimen was lot 782 in Sincona sale 63 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 140 CHF (about US$176 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Frankreich, konigreich, Louis XIV. 1643-1715. 1/12 Ecu au buste juvenile. 1661 C, Saint-Lô. Gadoury -. Cammarano F11. Selten. Sehr schön. Schrötlingsfehler und etwas Belag. (kingdom of France, Louis XIV, 1643-1715, one-twelfth écu of the juvenile bust of 1661, Saint-Lô mint. Rare, Very fine, Flan flaws and some residue.)" This is an unlisted mint for the douziéme d'écu au buste juvenile so we presume it is rare. The mintmark is upside down so this specimen may be a counterfeit.

Recorded mintage: unknown[2].

Specification: 2.29 g, 0.917 fine silver, 19-20 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by Jean Warin, this specimen 2.14 g.

Catalog reference: Gadoury unlisted, Dr/4 unlisted, KM unlisted.
