Steve Album sale 55, lot 2766

This specimen was lot 2766 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE: Louis XIV, 1643-1715, AR 1/2 écu à la mèche longue, Aix, 1646-&, beautiful bluish tone, rare date/mintmark, PCGS graded AU53." The specimen shown is a demi-écu à la mèche longue struck at Aix during the reign of Louis XIV of France. It was lot 1176 in CGB sale 31 (Paris, June 2007). Droulers[2] prices this date about 40% higher than the common date (1655-A).

Recorded mintage: 103,996[2].

Specification: 13.72 g, 0.917 fine silver, 31-32 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by Jean Warin.
