This specimen was lot 23533 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $1,645. The catalog description[1] noted, "Louis XIII 1/4 Ecu 1641-L, Bayonne mint, MS64 NGC. Handsomely toned in greenish-red iridescence, this piece retains remarkably preserved surfaces and an above-average strike for the type. This example is the finest and only example of this date/mint certified by NGC." This type was struck in France for the entire length of Louis XIII's reign from two dozen mints and is common in circulated condition but is very rare in the quality shown.

Specification: 9.71 g, 0.917 fine silver, 26-31 mm diameter.
