H61259-99018r.jpg

This specimen was lot 99018 in Heritage sale 61259 (Dallas, TX, February 2022), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "France: Henri IV 1/4 Ecu 1610-(9) XF Details (Cleaned) NGC, Rennes mint. A clearly struck example featuring fully legible legends." This quarter écu was struck by the hammer at at least a dozen mints starting in the time of Henry III (1580) and continuing into the reign of Louis XIV (1651). While Rennes is a common mint, this is not a common date. Quarter écus of 1610 exist for Louis XIII but not from Rennes.

Recorded mintage: 109,317, including a few eighth écus.

Specification: 9.71 g, 0.917 fine silver.

Catalog reference: Sb 4686, cf. KM 47.21 (date unlisted).
