This specimen was lot 24516 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $1,116.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Charles X gold Ecu d'Or 1592-A, AU55 NGC, full date and mint, the obverse legend begins at 6 o'clock. Lightly toned and original, dates after 1590 were struck during the reign of Henri IV. Charles X, Cardinal de Bourbon, ruled from 1589-1590." Charles X was actually the pretender put up by the Catholic League in opposition to Henry IV, who had converted from Protestantism. This Cardinal never ruled France as he was a prisoner of Henry IV.

Recorded mintage: 41,600[3].
