Jean Elsen sale 152, lot 1796

This specimen was lot 1796 in Jean Elsen sale 152 (Brussels, September 2022), where it sold for €90 (about US$109 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANCE, Royaume, François Ier (1515-1547), AR grand blanc du Dauphiné, Crémieu. 10e type. Couronnelles initiales. D/ Ecu écartelé de France-Dauphiné. R/ Croix pattée cantonnée de deux lis et deux dauphins. Rare. Très Beau à Superbe. (kingdom of France, Francis I, 1515-47, silver grand blanc of Dauphiny, Cremieu mint, tenth type, initial coronets. Obverse: quartered arms of France and Dauphiny; reverse: cross pattée cantonned with two lilies and two dolphins. Rare, Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"

At the time of issue, this coin ahd a face value of twelve deniers tournois. The grand blanc du Dauphiné was struck at Romans (Dupl-842, -844, -851), Montélimar (Dupl-845, -848, -849), Grenoble (Dupl-847, -849, -850) and Crémieu (Dupl-844, -852). Later issues of this denomination were known as dizains.
