Sincona sale 46, lot 313

This specimen was lot 313 in Sincona sale 46 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 700 CHF (about US$840 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANCE, Kingdom, Louis XI. 1461-1483. Ecu dor au soleil o. J. (2.11.1475), Saint-Lô. Gutes sehr schön. (kingdom of France, Louis XI, 1461-83, undated gold écu of the sunburst, emission of November 1475, Saint-Lô mint. Good very fine.)"

This écu d'or au soleil superseded the écu d'or à la couronne from earlier in the reign. The dot under the F of FRANCORVM is in the 19th position, indicating Saint-Lô. It had a face value of 33 sols tournois. The legend should start with a crown.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.49 g, 0.963 fine gold, this specimen 3.48 g.

Catalog reference: Duplessy 544. Fr-314.
