France (1326) royal d'or Fr-261
This specimen was lot 293 in Sincona sale 46 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 2,000 CHF (about US$2,400 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"FRANCE, Kingdom, Charles IV, 1322-1328. Royal dor o. J. (16.2.1326). Fast vorzüglich. Leicht gewellt. (kingdom of France, Charles IV, 1322-28, undated gold royal, emission of February 1326. About extremely fine, Slightly wavy flan.)"
Duplessy notes that this type had a face value of 25 sols tournois. Other gold coins listed for Charles IV include an agnel d'or (20 sols) and petit royal d'or (12½ sols). Only the royal d'or is reasonably common.
