This specimen was lot 99065 in Heritage sale 61253 (Dallas, January 2022), where it sold for $11,700. The catalog description[1] noted,

"France: Charles IV (1322-1328) gold Agnel d'Or ND (from 1322) MS62 NGC, Paris mint. Emission from 5 January 1322. +AGn DI QVI' TOLL PCCA MVDI MISЄRЄRЄ nOB (without stops), nimbate Agnus Dei left, head right, a long cross with banner behind; KL' RЄX in the exergue, star below / +XP'C • VInCIT • XP'C • RЄGNAT • XP'C • IMPЄRAT, cross fleurée within quadrilobe with lis in spandrels. Unusually fine quality for the type, this appealing small gold issue presently stands as one of only four seen by NGC, with only a single piece ranking a point higher at PCGS. Just slightly flat atop the very highest points of the design, the coin omits not the least bit of detail from the strike, which appears just slightly off-center on its undersized flan."

The gold coins listed for Charles IV include this agnel d'or (20 sols), royal d'or (25 sols) and petit royal d'or (12½ sols). Only the royal d'or is reasonably common. Charles IV was the last king of the house of Capet.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.000 fine gold, 4.13 g, this specimen 4.10 g.

Catalog reference: Fr-263, Ciani-251, Dupl-239.
