Flanders 1700 schelling
This specimen was lot 556 in Jean Elsen sale 140 (Brussels, March 2019), where it sold for €320 (about US$426 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"VLAANDEREN, Graafschap, Karel II (1665-1700), AR schelling, 1700, Brugge. Vz/ Leeuw l. met zwaard en ovaal wapenschild. Kz/ Gekroond wapenschild op stokkenkruis. Zeldzaam. Fraai à Zeer Fraai. (county of Flanders, Charles II, 1665-1700, silver shilling of 1700, Bruges mint. Obverse: lion rampant left bearing a sword and shield; reverse: crowned arms over a floriate cross. Rare, Fine - Very Fine.)"
This coin was issued in the last year of the life of the hapless Charles II of Spain. It is listed in the SCWC as an escalin.
