Jean Elsen sale 147, lot 1158

This specimen was lot 1158 in Jean Elsen sale 147 (Brussels, June 2021), where it sold for €180 (about US$263 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"VLAANDEREN, Graafschap, Philips IV (1621-1665), AR patagon, 1649, Brugge. Vz/ Gekroond stokkenkruis met een vuurijzer tussen het jaartal en het juweel van het Gulden Vlies. Kz/ Gekroond wapenschild omringd door de keten van het Gulden Vlies. Zeer Fraai. (county of Flanders, Philip IV, 1621-65, silver patagon of 1649, Bruges mint. Obverse: crowned Burgundian cross with the jewels of the Golden Fleece divides the date; reverse: crowned arms, Order of the Golden Fleece around. Very Fine.)"

The type shown here was struck at the Bruges mint 1622-65. The other provinces issued this type, including Artois, Brabant, Tournai and Luxembourg.
