Finland 1866-S 2 markkaa
This specimen was lot 271 in Sincona Auction 99 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 700 CHF (about US$1,055 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RUSSLAND Kaiserreich und Föderation, Alexander II. 1855-1881, 2 Markkaa 1866/5, Helsinki Mint. Mintage for Finland. Overdate. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. (empire of Russia, Alexander II, 1855-81, two markkaa of 1866, Helsinki mint, 1866/5 overdate, struck for Finland. Rare in this condition. NGC MS63.)"
This is a common date of a type struck 1865-67 and 1870. The subsequent type (KM 7.2, struck 1872-74, 1905-08) had a slightly different border.
