Falkland Islands 2002 50 pence KM-81
This specimen was lot 31049 in Heritage auction 3096 (Dallas, TX, March 2021), where it sold for $2,760. The catalog description[1] noted, "Falkland Islands: British Colony. Elizabeth II gold Proof "Golden Jubilee - Royal Throne" 50 Pence 2002 PR70 Ultra Cameo NGC. Mintage: 150 (split between plain and multicolored bunting varieties). The sole inhabitant at NGC, this Golden Jubilee specimen presents a brilliant strike, with images of the royal throne set against deeply mirrored fields. From the Paramount Collection." This is one in a series of NCLT's issued in this format, all struck in copper-nickel, silver and gold. Some were issued in plain metal and others were multicolored. Only 3,400 people live in the Falklands so it seems unlikely that this coin circulated there.
Recorded mintage: unknown but common in copper-nickel, 15,000 in silver and 150 in gold.
