This specimen was lot 32739 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $810. The catalog description[1] noted, "British Colony. Elizabeth II gold Proof Pound 1974 PR70 Ultra Cameo NGC. Currently the only example to grade a perfect PR70 (Ultra Cameo) by either PCGS or NGC. Flawless, with sparkling surfaces, satiny devices, and an incredible reflectivity." The Falkland Islands, off the coast of Argentina in the south Atlantic Ocean, last made the news in 1982, when Argentina attempted to conquer the islands but were ousted by Her Majesty's Armed Forces. The islands remain a British dependency. This specimen came from a set comprising a half pound (Fr-4, KM-6); a one pound (shown here); a two pounds (Fr-2, KM-8) and a five pounds (Fr-1, KM-9).
