Stack's Bowers September 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 74333

This specimen was lot 74333 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "FAEROE ISLANDS. 5 Ore, 1941. London Mint. Christian X of Denmark. PCGS MS-63 Red Brown. One of the finer examples of the type that one will encounter, this Choice specimen glistens with a great red-brown nature." This specimen is one of a series struck for Denmark in London while Denmark was under Nazi occupation. Denominations also included one, two, ten and 25 øre. It is the only time special coinage was struck for the islands, which lie in the North Sea to the north of Britain.
