Faeroe Islands 1941 25 ore
This specimen was lot 42159 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $1,440. The catalog description[1] noted, "FAEROE ISLANDS. 25 Ore, 1941. Copenhagen Mint. Christian X. PCGS PROOF-66. An EXTREMLY RARE proof of record, likely produced in numbers near, if not in, the single digits. Exquisitely preserved, this example showcases delicate golden tone with extreme mirror-like gleam in the fields. Light cameo-producing frost appears on the designs, adding a bit of depth to the appearance. To date, the only example seen by PCGS, which is sure to delight the collector seeking major rarities of the 20th century." This specimen is one of a series struck for Denmark in London while Denmark was under Nazi occupation. Denominations also included one, two, five and ten øre. It is the only time special coinage was struck for the islands, which lie in the North Sea to the north of Britain.
