This specimen was lot 44344 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "ERITREA. 100 Dollars, 1993. NGC PROOF-69 Ultra Cameo. Triceratops. A brilliant Proof with hard mirrored fields and frosted cameo devices." This type was accompanied by KM 10 (copper-nickel dollar) and KM 11 (silver 10 dollars). Other dinosaur-themed NCLT's included KM 8, 12, 26, 27 (all struck in gold). It seems odd that a series of coins intended to "Preserve Planet Earth" featured extinct North American animals, especially since there are many spectacular dinosaur fossils from Africa.

Recorded mintage: est. 5,000.

Specification: 6.22, 0.900 fine gold.

Catalog reference: Fr-3; KM-12.
