This specimen was lot 33667 in Heritage sale 3082 (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "Equatorial Guinea: Republic Proof gold Proof "Durer's Praying Hands" 250 Pesetas 1970 PR66 Ultra Cameo NGC." This is one of a large group of NCLT's issued in 1970 featuring such African luminaries as Abraham Lincoln and Mahatma Gandhi. This design also appeared on a silver 50 pesetas (KM 7) and 100 pesetas (KM 12). President Francisco Macias was overthrown in 1979 and received a well-deserved execution by firing squad but his clan still rules the country today.
