England 1578 1-1/2 pence
This specimen was lot 40351 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $2,280. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 1-1/2 Pence (3 Halfpence), 1578. London Mint; mm: Greek Cross. Elizabeth I. NGC MS-64. The sole finest graded example yet holdered by NGC, this lovely threehalfpence delivers a mostly strong strike, on a complete planchet, with handsome brilliance underlying some colorful tone that catches the light. From the Richard August Collection." The rose behind the queen's head distinguished this coin from the very similar halfgroat or two pence.
