Sincona sale 75, lot 75

This specimen was lot 75 in Sincona sale 75 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 1,400 CHF (about US$1,699 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Grossbritannien | Königreich. Elizabeth I. 1558-1603. 1/4 Angel n. d. (1587-1590), Tower Mint. Sixth issue. Mintmark crescent. NGC XF Details. Aus Fassung. (Ex jewelry.)" The angel was traditionally one third of a pound or six shillings and eight pence, altho it was raised to ten shillings by king James I. This tiny coin would have been worth two shillings twopence halfpenny.
