This specimen was lot 20108 in Ponterio sale 176 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $9,988. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Elizabeth I, 1558-1603. Angel, ND (1585-87). Escallop. St. Michael spearing dragon. Rv. Ship with shield at center. A gorgeous Elizabeth Angel that exhibits frosty, natural luster and only some trivial legend weakness here and there. Essentially as made and a perfect type coin. Very Fine Plus. Ex: Seaby, 1985." This angel was tariffed at six shillings and eight pence (one third of a pound).
