This specimen was lot 72304 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Shilling, ND (1551-53). London Mint; mm: tun. Edward VI. PCGS EF-40. Third period, fine silver issue. Obverse: Crowned facing bust; rose to left, XII (mark of value) to right; Reverse: Coat-of-arms over long cross fourchee. Rather deeply toned with hues of gunmetal gray and olive, this enchanting specimen presents captivating eyes of the young king along with well struck, problem-free surfaces." The 'y' mintmark was used only in 1551. This type, using other mintmarks, including the tun (barrel) shown here, was struck until 1553.
