Stack's Bowers 2022 ANA sale, lot 32167

This specimen was lot 32167 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2022), where it sold for $1,140. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 1/2 Crown, 1551. London Mint; mm: y. Edward VI. PCGS VF-30. Third period, fine silver issue. An elegant and enticingly wholesome example of the type, presenting a fair amount of even wear, but some alluring gunmetal gray toning and hints of brilliance in the recesses. Struck toward the latter part of the fairly brief reign of Henry VIII's only male offspring, Edward VI." This type was struck 1551 only. Other half crowns, with the king astride a galloping horse, were struck 1551-53 (S-2480).
